SHOKEI GAKUIN UNIVERSITY

Department of Humanities and Social Studies
Field of Regional Activities

Student Development Goal

Cultivate people with broad knowledge and practical skills based on a comprehensive understanding of the region, who will contribute to regional revitalization through the use of regional resources.

Characteristics of Learning

Formation of the Regional Community

Students aim to develop an understanding of the regional community based on the regional sociology and then apply it to development of a region that can withstand disasters and provides rich opportunities for purposeful living. In extracurricular training and seminar activities, they can take on the challenge of solving regional issues together with local governments and local residents through community formation.

Local economy and industry

Through studies based on economics and business management, students develop an understanding of the causes and mechanisms of regional problems and explore regional strategies that utilize local resources and the attractions of the region. Gaining the ability to perform data-based analysis of the state of the region enables them to think about how to create a sustainable regional economy and regional industries in collaboration with local governments and companies in partnership agreements.

Regional history and culture

Through studies based on historical science and ethnology, students learn to grasp the formation process of the region from its history and culture. With a better understanding of the region’s attractions, they can then explore measures for utilizing cultural resources to create rich communities, or as tourist resources. In seminars and practical training, students develop the ability to think about regional development from a standpoint that makes the most of the knowledge that has been cultivated within the region for many years.

What are the region’s resources? Although the things you can see with your eyes may be the first to come to mind, invisible elements like the connections between people, the culture that has been handed down over generations, and the abundance of nature are also important regional resources. And these things we cannot see are extremely diverse and may be the very things that can be utilized as the strengths of the region in the future.
