Public Policy

There are many problems in society that single individuals cannot hope to solve by themselves. In this class, students will foster the ability to think about things themselves by deepening their learning in this field and considering the problems of contemporary society and direction for solutions, while learning the basics of public policies.

Supporting regional reconstruction through social research

Field Study in Social Research

For the revitalization of Yuriage-Natori, which suffered immense damage from the earthquake, students will discover its culture through research and plan and implement the travel tours to Yuriage-Natori to increase the number of tourists and visitors.

Study the law for the prevention and solution of consumer issues

Consumer Law

Students will learn various special legislation, such as the Consumer Contract Act and the Specified Commercial Transactions Act, as well as the Civil Code, which is the general legislation for private law, to understand how they relate to our daily lives. Then students will study the legal frameworks for preventing and solving consumer issues.

Understanding that economic behavior is related to laws and customs

Human Behavior and Institutional Economics

Institutional economics starts from the perspective that our activities such as purchasing and producing things (economic behavior) are constrained by the institutions of the society in which we live. Students will learn how laws, customs, and institutions relate to the economy.

Study the social issues caused by the declining birthrate and aging population

Theory of Aging Society

Modern Japanese society has problems with the declining birth rate and aging population. Students will gain an understanding of the background and current characteristics of the aging society and the problems that society faces as a result and obtain clues for solving those problems.

Measure the mutual relationship among local industries in concrete ways

Regional Industries

What kinds of connections between industries make up our region? What changes will the introduction of new industrial policies bring about to income and employment in the region? In this class, students will use inter-industry analyses to study the concepts of measurement of economic structures and their ripple effects.

Consider, together with local professionals, how to develop the town through tourism

Community Planning and Tourism

In the first half of the class, students will examine the current status and problems regarding tourism resources and the tourism industry in the Tohoku region through literature research. In the second half, they will consider specific measures for town development and regional revitalization through tourism, through field research together with visiting lecturers who are professionals in the sector.

Marketing Studies

Companies’ marketing activities involve rolling out strategies in response to changes in the target market and consumers. Learn about business models that identify change in consumer needs, establish the optimal strategies, and create value.

Strategic Management

Companies must change their behavior and act quickly in response to changes in the business environment. They need strategies that can accommodate the business conditions of the time. Students will consider the selection and concentration of businesses and the establishment of competitive advantage.

By actually using computers, students will be able to obtain, through experience, a basic knowledge of statistics and how to handle data, which are required for social surveys.

Since the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake, various problems have emerged in Japan’s energy policy. Students will consider how the energy in our daily lives is generated and how it will change in the future.

Diasporology

The form of residence in which ethnic minority groups live in foreign countries is known as diaspora. Diaspora have the wisdom to maintain their own culture as well as to get along with their host countries. Students will consider peace and co-existence based on the lifestyles of diaspora living in Japan and other countries.

Publishing Culture

Today, the publishing business stands at a major crossroads. Students will study the current state of culture regarding books and magazines from various perspectives, such as the mechanisms of the publishing industry, the presence of bookshops and libraries, the significance of reading, and the impact of e-books and internet bookshops.

Acquire powers of expression through video to respond to the video age

Workshop for Visual Image Production

Students will learn the basic workflow of video production by producing their own 30-second commercial. They will learn how to discover the selling points of the product they are advertising, and study in a practical way how to convey those points with video, using basic filming and editing methods.

Introduction to Humanities and Social Sciences

The academic discipline of the humanities includes philosophy, ethics, theology, religious studies, cultural anthropology, literary studies, linguistics, English language studies, pedagogy, and so on. Introduction to Anthropology

Career Design I

After gaining a recognition of the characteristics of Japan’s employment systems and the state of employment, students will give serious consideration to their profession and life and how they will live their own life. Students will then set their own professional career goals for after graduation and plan how they will study and behave during their university years to realize those goals.
