Characteristics of Learning

Develop the ability to solve various problems related to the human mind

Human mental problems occur in every place that people come into contact with each other, such as at home, at school, and at work. If you can address and solve these problems, you can live a richer life. Students in the Psychology Department cultivate the ability to solve human mental problems through four years of learning.

Develop the ability to discover problems related to the human mind

People tend to overlook mental problems of other people or their own because these are familiar problems. By learning various theories about human speech and behavior, psychology students cultivate the discernment to detect mental problems that people tend to be unaware of. They also learn a variety of techniques (observations, tests, etc.) to discover mental problems.

Develop the ability to objectively analyze human mental problems

In order to solve a human mental problem, we need to first analyze the problem objectively. Psychology students learn how to use statistical methods, etc., to objectively analyze data obtained from human speech and behavior.

Study psychology with a broad range of emphasis, from basic studies to practical application

There are many types of psychology, but the main distinction is between "basic psychology" in which we learn about the mental mechanisms of human beings in general, and "practical psychology", in which we learn how to practice psychological support in the medical/health, education, welfare, judicial/criminal, and industrial/labor fields. In the Department of Psychology, you can gain solid knowledge of both "basic psychology" and "practical psychology".

Major Initiatives

The discovery and solution of problems concerning the human mind will require honing our powers of observation of people. The Department of Psychology delivers various courses that allow students to hone their powers of observation of people. They include Psychological Experiments, in which students will conduct experiments on subjects, Psychological Assessment for psychological testing of people, and Fieldwork Exercises, in which students survey people in an interview setting. Many efforts to hone students’ powers of observation of people are also made outside of class.
