Experience the appeal and fun of creating

Arts and Handicrafts

In this class, students will deepen their understanding of the kinds of materials available for making things and the characteristics of those materials and how to use tools correctly, while experiencing the appeal and fun of creating. They will gain a real sense of the value to be found in creating things with familiar materials and objects from nature. Even students who are not good at drawing or craft are sure to enjoy this class.

Explore new possibilities for the study of Japanese literature

Introduction to Japanese Literature

When we read Rashomon, a story you have probably already studied in the past, as a work for Japanese literary research, how will our understanding of the work change? Changing how we read will result in new discoveries. Rashomon will lead us, to a different world. We are being asked to decide how to position Japanese literature in our own existence.

Improve physical education instruction skills

Sports Methodology I

Students will learn the basics of physical education instruction needed in schools, with the aim of improving the specialized instruction skills and crisis management skills required for teachers. Further, students will also acquire the ability to conduct physical education classes that take the individual conditions of each student fully into account.

Deepen understanding of children with intellectual disabilities.

Phycology, Physiology and Pathology of Intellectual Disabilities

Students will deepen their understanding of the knowledge needed to teach children with intellectual disabilities, including the medical factors and psychological characteristics of intellectual disabilities. They will learn specific procedures to gain a picture of the children’s development and acquire more effective support methods.

Explore the appeal of children’s literature to unravel the issues.

Child Literature Theory

Students will acquire basic knowledge about children's literature, including picture books, and explore its appeal. As well as exploring the definition of children’s literature and how it has changed over the years, they will clarify issues in children's literature in Japan and around the world, while making use of new methods of reading in literary research.

Sports for Everyone

Lifelong Sport

Amid the changes in society, such as the declining birthrate and aging population, we need to establish the environment and conditions that will allow people to take part in and keep up sporting activities that are suited to the individual in their respective life stages. Students will consider the significance of lifelong sport and community development through sport.

Nurture perspectives for thinking about what constitutes education

Principles of Education

Contemporary education is based on the wisdom of our predecessors that has been accumulated through past efforts in addressing educational challenges. Students will develop an understanding of how education has been viewed historically and how such views are connected to education today. Through that understanding, they will cultivate perspectives for understanding contemporary education.

Consider how people should be through understanding and education of Humanities

Pedagogical Anthropology

Students will take a panoramic overview of the conventional view of humans, identify the problems of scientism and technicism in understanding humans, and understand the characteristics of philosophical human study that strives to clarify human beings in a comprehensive way. They will also develop an understanding of the diverse nature of human beings, interpreted through the facts of education.

Participate in actual education to observe and experience activities

Teaching Practice (Elementary School)

Students will study the functions and roles of elementary schools and the work of teachers in practical ways. They will observe elementary school classes and deepen their understanding of children by interacting with them, and actually take charge of classes and teach subjects. They will also study the broader roles of elementary schools, such as collaboration with families, kindergartens, and local communities.

Acquire the ability to play instruments in ensembles and cultivate a rich musicality

Orchestra

Students will learn techniques for playing musical instruments used in orchestral music, regardless of whether or not they have any experience in playing an instrument. They will experience the pleasure and joy of playing music and cultivate richer humanity and musicality by acquiring the ability to play in ensembles.
